We're located in Anchorage, Alaska and have a seven year old, single stage Frigidaire system. Frigidaire no longer has an outlet here in Anchorage so availability of parts is an issue. Our blower fan probably has a year of life left as we were given the wrong information and had set it to Run as opposed to Auto. It will probably cost around $500 to replace. The independent energy auditor and HVAC guy both said the same thing - they'd never buy a Frigidaire (not as efficient, costly for repair), but ours seemed to be working just fine. I service it myself every four to six months and save for the blower starting to get cranky have had no real issues.
Our state is providing cash back for upgrading to a five star rating and with the energy auditor putting us at a "3.5 star" rating we'll qualify to purchase a new, more efficient heating system. We'll definitely be going to a two stage system. I just haven't figured out which to purchase.
